The City of Elk Grove is seeking a Human Resources Director. The next Human Resources Director will be an experienced professional looking for a capstone appointment for their career. This is a dream job – a premier organization in California – that boasts a very high retention rate among its employees. The employee turnover ratio has never exceeded 3%. The City’s current turnover ratio is 2%. Elk Grove is financially healthy and values its employees for their creativity and hard work; consequently, the bureaucracy is less than what may be seen in other jurisdictions and employee engagement remains high. The Director needs to build on this stable foundation and drive innovation within the Department to enhance HR offerings. Some of the goals the next Director will undertake include driving a redesigned citywide employee training program to develop Elk Grove’s next leaders and champion the City’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies and practices.

The Director will have a solid background in all Human Resources functional areas and a track record of success in public sector HR management. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred, as well as a specialization or certificate in labor relations. This person will have strong leadership skills to expand the HR team’s expertise and offerings; strong communication skills to clearly explain complex rules and regulations to non-HR professionals; will be a member of the Executive Team and be extremely responsive to their HR needs, who each depend on the Director for expertise within Human Resources.
