The City of San Bernardino is seeking a Public Information Officer. The Public Information Officer (PIO) is a member of the City Manager’s team, who under limited direction, plans, organizes, oversees, directs, and implements the City-wide public information disbursement, media relations, community relations, social media presence, website content management and other comprehensive communications. The PIO also advises the City Manager of the potential public relations effect of proposed complex actions. The PIO shall maintain and develop strong community outreach programs, exercise independent judgement, demonstrate strong customer service apply sound principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective workforce and professional Public Relations program.

The ideal candidate will be problem solver with excellent communication, where speech is direct and to the point and who speaks convincingly and with authority when appropriate. The successful candidate will maintain sensitivity to audiences while providing thorough information with the appropriate level of detail using precise language. The incumbent will be at ease developing, coordinating, and participating in news conferences, special events, and other programs the City hosts and that engage public interest. The ideal candidate is adept with creating and developing engaging content to reach the community through social media platforms, and other public outreach mediums, and reliable to monitor social media conversations and interactions and provide support for the Police Department and other departments social media communications.
