City of Rialto is seeking a Director of Finance. The Director of Finance is the City’s Chief Financial Officer. The Director supervises all the financial activities in the City, including Finance (general accounting, budgeting, debt administration, and revenue collection), Purchasing and Payroll. This also includes the city owned water and wastewater enterprise utilities. The next Director of Finance will eagerly embrace new challenges and look forward to developing collaborative solutions. The Director will need to be assertive and employ a hands-on approach to managing and mentoring the department by designing and building processes that will influence the city for years to come. A trusted advisor and inspiring leader with a demonstrated ability to invest in, and bring out the best in their team, the Director will cultivate the skills of the talented staff members while coordinating operations with the separate City Treasurer’s office. To fully integrate into the City’s culture, the Director needs to be humble, approachable, and open to feedback. A “top-down approach” would be incongruent with the Department; instead, a person who can identify, admit, and learn from their faults or mistakes is desirable. Someone with a good sense of humor and the capacity to work through difficult politics with Council, the community, and external partners is crucial.
