The City of Tucson is looking for an Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer (ACM/CFO) to perform highly responsible administrative work involved in planning and managing the Departments of Business Services, Information Technology and the Offices of Equal Opportunity Programs, Innovation and Strategy, and Internal Audit for the City. The Department of Business Services includes the functions of Human Resources, Procurement, Risk Management and Finance, which works closely with the ACM/CFO on the financial activities of the organization, budget development, the direction and preparation of financial reports, financial planning, forecasting and comprehensive financial management.

The ACM/CFO exhibits strong leadership capabilities and assists in the positive transformation of organizational culture and carrying forward the priorities of the Mayor and Council, and the City Manager’s Office. A strong candidate for this role will be a visionary, strategic, and collaborative professional who has outstanding leadership and the desire to drive innovation and continuous process improvement.  It is imperative that this leader has demonstrated success as a highly effective professional who has the knowledge and experience to drive excellence in an employee-focused organization while prioritizing a stable financial environment and Smart City focus.  

Candidates who bring strengths in finance/budgeting, human resources, information technology and knowledge of advancing government issues will be favorably considered. The city seeks candidates who are straightforward, demonstrating the highest levels of integrity, yet passionate and always professional in attitude and action.

To be a good fit in this organization, the ideal candidate must be highly collaborative with peers and colleagues and capable of understanding and transforming organizational behavior. The position has regular interaction with local elected officials and makes presentations to the Mayor and Council, therefore, strong presentation skills and political acumen are essential ingredients for this position. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a macro-perspective that allows them to understand the importance of the role in the City government and the Tucson community.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or a relevant field, however, a master’s degree is preferred, and at least five years of experience in a similar capacity for a large organization; Progressively responsible administrative experience in a municipal government organization is preferred.
