The City of Edmonds is actively searching for a Director of Public Works to strategically manage and oversee its comprehensive public infrastructure, including streets, drainage, utilities, buildings, and fleet operations.  The Director will play a critical role in guiding departmental operations in strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, while also managing the department’s financial operations including budget development, capital improvement planning, and project prioritization.

Candidates are expected to have a strong background in environmental compliance and safety regulations related to public works, coupled with robust leadership skills to supervise, train, and evaluate department staff effectively. Furthermore, the Director will engage in high-level decision-making and advisory roles, providing detailed analysis, recommendations, and technical expertise to both the Mayor and City Council. This position demands excellent analytical abilities to oversee resource allocation, project management, and operational efficiency, as well as superior communication skills to effectively interact with government officials, community stakeholders, and the public.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field, complemented by at least eight years of progressive experience in public works project management or supervision. Expertise in various public works areas, with at least four years of experience in staff supervision, budget management, and overall management responsibilities, ideally within a municipal or public sector setting.
